Rugby Union World Cup 2011 in New Zealand

New Zealand have beaten Argentina in their quarter finale. The final score was too high and didnt reflect the actual game. Argentina held their own very well and only broke in the last 20 minutes when New Zealand cashed in. But the first half was NOT convincing. I am not sure whats holding them back, it can only be the pressure of having to win it. BEar in mind, they go to every world cup as the favourites and have failed every single time so far. And now the tournament is in their country, the entire nation is demanding and expecting the title. Thats why the odds are so strongly in their favour. Now, for the Aussies. Not entirely convinving themselves and suffering from heavy injuries. But they have beaten the current world champions South Africa and have shown flashes of their awesome offensiv potential. I do expect though the game to be rather defensive and not too many points scored. The kicking is gonna be vital, advantage to New Zealand who scored 8 out of 9 in their game with Argentina. But I still think the Aussies are the better bet, purely because they are an incredible offensive force and the odds do the rest for me.
PS I can not wait for that game, absolutely love the Haka and probably gonna feel sad for the Kiwis when they go out :-(

ok, my prediction about France was right, as it is so often, when they are the outsiders they really get going. Kicking was very good and an allround great team spirit. A derservedly win for them against disapointing England. Wales on the othe hand have beaten an aging Ireland side. I am not convinced with Wales, besides the Fiji rout they didnt show anything which made me think they could actually go somewhere. And why are France only the outsiders??? Phewwww, the Kiwis came out steamrollin, even though they missed a few kicks, the game was never in doubt. Should the Kiwis have waited all these years only to win the world cup on home soil? Only sports writes stories like that!

As for the game for third. I think its all about motivation for this game. And thats why I think the welsh are gonna come away third. A third for Australia means nothing, or very little. Wales are thrilled, probably even should have been in the finale, fighting very bravely v France and played most of the game with 14 men only. Captain Sam Warburton will miss the third-place play-off against Australia after receiving a three-week ban for his "dangerous tip tackle" in the 9-8 semi-final defeat by France. I hope the welsh team realises what massive support they have back in Wales. Over 60000 people were at the stadium in Cardiff for the semi final.
The aussies are obviously favourites, but I dont like the odds on them, and their tournament hasnt been like anyone would expect to blow Wales away. Therefor, I go for the better odds and hope for my neighbours! Come on Cymru!

Finally, the big one! The finale. I think a whole lot of people had their money on New Zealand to win the tournament from the very beginning. So, reaching the finals was the very minimum before the tournament. By now, I think, they would even see the reaching of the final as absolute failure if that game would be lost. The entire nation lives and breathes Rugby and for them to host the world cup of their beloved sport is the pinnacle. The Kiwis have flown through the tournament and brushed aside everything and everyone. Including the Aussies in their semi finale. It was more than impressiv how the swept them aside within the first 20 minutes. As for France, noone expected them to reach the finals this time around. The team seemed to be in disarray and no connection between coach and team seemed obvious. Public criticism of their coach about particular players hasnt helped that bond either. But they have surprised us all and reached the finals again. France like to play the underdog and seem to strive in that role. I do think New Zealand are going to win their very first Rugby World Cup but the odds are an aboslute disgrace. Noone with any betting sense will take these odds. Therefore I will take the generous 8.5 with SportingBet but only 2 units as I fully expect the Kiwis to win that game comprehensivly. I can not wait for it, it will be an absolute spectacle and a very fitting end to an awesome world cup, hosted by an awesome nation! Thank you Kiwis!
